Step off the ship and into a quieter, more immersive side of Ketchikan. This small-group rainforest hike along Lunch Creek takes you deeper into the Tongass National Forest, where moss-covered forest floors, towering old-growth trees, and the sound of flowing water create a true Alaskan Experience. Follow the creek past waterfalls, red cedar, hemlock, and Sitka spruce while enjoying plenty of space to slow down, take photos, and actually connect with your surroundings - without the crowds. Guided by a local who lives and hikes these trails year-round, you'll experience a more personal, grounded side of Alaska while learning about the forest's ecosystem and history. Trail Information - √ Moderate, unpaved trail with inclines and primative stairs √ This is not recommended for those with health issues or injuries that require help or frequent stopping. This trail does have hills and loose gravel. Check the weather before arriving in port. What's Included - √ Cinch backpack √ Bottle of water √ Light, healthy snack (fruit, granola, trail mix) Meeting Details - √ Pickup at the covered Visitor center (Berth 3) √ Ward Cove pickup at the tour staging area at The Mill Important Notes - √ Dress accordingly. Layers, coats, and rain gear may be needed as Southeast Alaska can have very unpredictable weather. √ Shoes and socks that are comfortable and that you do not mind getting dirty or wet. Athletic/cross-training/running shoes with good tread are fine for most, hiking shoes, or trail shoes. Casual shoes or canvas shoes like Converse are not recommended. √ This is an alcohol-free, drug-free, and tobacco-free tour. √ We will be following the 7 principles of Leave No Trace. There will be bathroom facilities near the trailhead, but not along the trails. If there is a need to go during the hike, WAG bags will be provided. √ Guaranteed return to ship/berth before departure
